On Queensland’s Gold Coast, high up on a plateau, in a hidden region of the Tallebudgera Valley set on more than 420 acres, lies Gwinganna.

Gwinganna is a growing place.  The name was given by the Kombumerri clan of Aborigines who once lived there.  It means ‘look out’ and the mountain is simply superb and has serenity and soul.  The small rustling creatures join and mix with the sighing breeze and the stillness evokes the sound of stretching bark as ancient trees still grow upwards.

Gwinganna is the setting of a dream to create a health retreat that would take its guests on a journey of self realisation, discovery and healing.  To create a rich nurturing place that is one with the nature that it is nestled in.

Take this imagery and add scattered pieces of history, unique buildings such as the first Tweed Head’s Methodist Church and quaint original Queenslander style homes that have been brought up by previous owners piece by piece from various locations, to preserve a sense of the Australian – or more specifically – the Queenslander way of life.

This is the canvas with which the owners approached Pouné Parsanejad of Pouné Design to create what has become Australia’s premier health and lifestyle retreat.
