In late 2010 the Bermagui group approached Pouné Design with an opportunity to design the flagship store for New Holland Publishing’s first retail outlet, Spank.  The challenge was it needed to be designed and built in 10 weeks to open for Christmas trading.

Pouné Design – in joint venture with Felicity Wheeler Architect – took on and delivered the project, with all necessary approvals from Westfield and certifiers.

The brief was to establish a shop not unlike a Parisian Street store, with an elegant yet strong presence. A place that would be enchanting and welcoming and capture the passers-by interest for a moment to stop and browse.

Our response was a design that incorporated beautifully crafted mouldings and simple and modular joinery units that would house the variety of intricate items to be displayed and sold.

Smoke mirrors, wall paper, velvet drapes, chandeliers and wall sconces were used in conjunction with reconditioned antique furniture to bring the store to life with a Parisian flair.

On the floors, timber vinyl planks were creatively used as herringbone parquetry. Juxtaposed with a splash of colour and vibrancy is a circular red carpet inlay that surrounds the rather large central column that became a feature within the store.

The completed project is a delight to all who experience it and has proven a huge success for our clients who fell in love with it from the first concept model.
